Faro and Tavira
We'll leave by coach for our tour of Faro and start off with the cathedral (exteriors only). Originally built as a church in the 13th and 14th centuries, Saint Mary became a cathedral in the 16th century. A few elements still remain from the original church including the bell tower and two chapels at the crossing of the transept. Afterwards, we'll head to Tavira. White walls, Moorish-style doors and roofs are characteristic of this city which has preserved the charm of the unspoilt villages of southern Portugal. This lovely coastal town is crossed by the river Gilão and boasts several beautiful bridges, including "Ponte Romana" with its seven Roman arches. We'll return on board in Vila Real de Santo António.
