Golf Courses
Lava Fields #5
The Lava Fields Course at Mission Hills Haikou is a spectacular championship layout designed by Brian Curley that showcases the dramatic volcanic landscape for which the resort is famous. Stretching 6840 metres from the back tees, the par-72 course winds through vast expanses of black lava rock, rugged waste areas, and naturally undulating terrain, creating one of the most visually striking golfing experiences in Asia. Wide fairways encourage strategic angles of attack, while closely mown chipping areas, expansive bunkers, and the stark contrast between emerald turf and volcanic rock demand both precision and creativity. More open and expansive than the neighboring Blackstone Course, Lava Fields offers a powerful test of golf in a setting unlike any other, combining championship-level challenge with breathtaking natural scenery.
Stone Quarry #7
The Stone Quarry Course at Mission Hills Haikou is one of the resort’s most visually dramatic and distinctive layouts, designed by Brian Curley as a tribute to legendary golf architect Pete Dye. Winding through ancient volcanic quarries, the par-70 course incorporates steep rock walls, rugged terrain, abandoned mining relics, railroad ties, rail-car bridges, and expansive sandy waste areas to create a bold and memorable golfing experience. Strategic features such as abrupt mounds, moguls, small undulating greens, and challenging bunker complexes place a premium on accuracy and shot-making rather than sheer distance. At just over 6,000 yards, the course offers a fun yet demanding test that combines striking quarry scenery with the strategic design elements that made Pete Dye courses famous
The Dunes - West
The Dunes West Course at Shenzhou Peninsula is a world-class seaside links-style course designed by Tom Weiskopf and Phil Smith, stretching along the spectacular coastline of Hainan Island. Opened in 2010, the par 72 championship layout measures up to 6,846 metres from the back tees and is renowned for its dramatic oceanfront holes, expansive sandy waste areas, rugged dunes, and stunning views of the South China Sea. Built on naturally sandy terrain, the course plays firm and fast, rewarding strategic shot-making and creativity in often challenging coastal winds. Signature holes such as the beachside 8th, the demanding shoreline par-4 16th, and the picturesque par-3 17th showcase the course's breathtaking setting and architectural excellence. Widely regarded as one of China's premier golf destinations, the Dunes West delivers an authentic links experience combined with unforgettable coastal scenery.
The Dunes - East
The Dunes East Course at Shenzhou Peninsula is a spectacular seaside links-style layout designed by Tom Weiskopf, set along the pristine coastline of Hainan Island and bordered by the South China Sea. Measuring up to 6,636 meters from the back tees and playing to a par 72, the course weaves through rolling coastal dunes, expansive sandy waste areas, natural wetlands, and dramatic oceanfront terrain. Opened in 2012, the East Course is celebrated for its strategic design and breathtaking scenery, with standout holes including the beachside par-3 15th, the stunning ocean-edge par-5 16th, and the risk-reward cliffside par-4 17th. Combining championship-caliber golf with panoramic sea views and a true links experience rarely found in Asia, the Dunes East is widely regarded as one of China's finest golf courses, and rated #4 in Asia
Vintage #3
The Vintage Course at Mission Hills Haikou is a distinctive par-72 layout designed by Brian Curley that pays tribute to the classic "Golden Age" courses of the early 20th century. Inspired by renowned traditional venues such as National Golf Links, Fishers Island, Maidstone, and Chicago Golf Club, the course blends natural, tree-lined terrain with quirky architectural features including deep pot bunkers, abrupt mounds, ridges, blind shots, geometric shaping, and wicker basket pins. Set across more than 250 acres of heavily wooded landscape, the routing preserves the site's natural beauty while providing generous space and strategic playing options. With its vintage-inspired character, undulating greens, and thoughtfully crafted hazards, the course offers a nostalgic golfing experience that rewards creativity, precision, and strategic shot-making.
Blackstone #1
Rated 19th in the Worlds top 100 courses this must play course winds its way through black lava rock surrounds with a stunning design. There are 5 tee boxes from which to choose though the black tees are reserved for golfers with a handicap of 4 or less
Sandbelt Trails #2
The Sandbelt Trails Course at Mission Hills Haikou is a striking Australian Sandbelt-inspired layout designed by Brian Curley, drawing influence from renowned Melbourne courses such as Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath, and Metropolitan.
Stretching more than 6670metres as a par 72, the course is characterized by expansive fairways, large undulating greens, and dramatic bunkering with high sand faces and thick grass edges that demand strategic shot-making.
Eucalyptus trees, native grasses, and tropical vegetation create a unique blend of Australian golfing aesthetics and Hainan’s lush landscape. The generously wide playing corridors offer multiple angles of attack, while the subtly rolling terrain and imaginative green complexes provide a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels.
